A leafy residential street in south west London is home to The Victoria, a marvellous 'gastropub with rooms' whose exquisite food, smart décor, warm welcome, big comfy leather armchairs and even bigger conservatory have attracted rave reviews a-plenty. Every day head chef Darren Archer offers new delights, but to give you an idea, Charolais sirloin steak with onion gravy, chips, salad and béarnaise is a typical evening meal, while a weekend lunch might be closer to nettle soup with a poached egg and tarragon. The wine list, chosen by Patrick Sandeman of Lea and Sandeman, pleases just as much as the menu. Everything is reasonably priced. Children are very welcome at this fantastic family restaurant.
