This cosy, Les Routiers-listed Plymouth restaurant seats just 28 people but has a good buzz at any time of day. The décor is a cool white, with flashes of blue and red in the furnishings, and the walls carry work by local artists. During the day the white French shutters are open, creating an open and airy space, but at night the atmosphere softens as shutters are pulled, lights dimmed and candles lit. The menu sparkles with flair: starters include seared scallops and king prawns on buttered spinach with a caviar and vermouth sauce, while mains include loin of wild boar served with a curried coconut and coriander sauce. Round it all off with the tangy West Country cheeseboard, or sink into the rich Malibu brûlée, served with coconut anglaise and passion fruit sorbet. The well-balanced wine list is mainly New World but makes room for some classic French grapes.
