The Aviary restaurant in Raynes Park has been warmly welcomed by diners in the Wimbledon area. Its gentle mix of classical and contemporary design has created a relaxed atmosphere in which you can enjoy some great cooking with French and Mediterranean influences. There's a very reasonably-priced set lunch featuring the likes of bruschetta with spicy sausage or potato gnocchi stuffed with sun-blushed tomatoes and Gorgonzola, served with sautéed baby Gem and Shimeji mushrooms. At dinner, try the pan-roasted red snapper with vanilla and green olive sauce or the baked aubergine stuffed with spinach, concasse tomato, mozzarella, parmesan and turmeric basmati rice. Don't even think about skipping dessert - not when they're all home-made on the premises and include mango sorbet, banoffee pie and a daily-changing cheesecake. But if you're really not into the sweet stuff, you can finish off with a plate of gutsy cheeses including English goat, Cornish Yarg and a lovely ripe Brie.
